Enigma - Inglorious Basterds

At the begining of our lesson we did an exercise where our teacher put an object in a plastic bag and causing us anxiety and making us curious in what was in the bag. It ended up just being a cuddly toy

Our teacher told us that he created an "Enigma". We then bullet pointed a few words that we thought described the word enigma. This is what we came up with...
  • The unknown
  • Audience
  • Suspense
  • Nerving
  • Engages audience
  • Build up
  • Questions
  • Problems
  • Emotions
  • Point of view
  • Dramatic irony
  • Curiousity
We then looked at the first two minutes of "Inglorious Basterds" while watching it we filled in a sheet in our group and wrote down the sounds and visual effects every 10 seconds. After the two minutes every group worte down their notes on the board so we had one big analysis of the first two minutes. This is what we all came up with as a class.

Most of the first two minutes were film titles. Although they were just titles they varied from different colours and fonts depending on who was mroe important. The film title then came up and it was shown in a different colour and font also the sound is increased to add importance. All these film titles create an enigma to the audience for whats to come as they are intrigued and wanting to find out more. But this can also bore the audience so are most probably goingt o skip the opening titles. After the titles are finished we are shown a back screen for a couple of seconds again this causes an enigma for the audience and keeps them guessing of whats to come next and how the film will start. We are then shown an establishing shot of a man axeing some wood and as, then a shot of a women hanging up some washing then she then looks back curiously
